A more just health system

At CommonSpirit Health, we believe everyone has the right to be healthy. We know our health shouldn’t depend on our zip code, economic status, or the color of our skin. Together we can create a more equitable health system that improves physical, social and mental health for everyone.

Racial injustice and health disparities

CommonSpirit is acting to address systemic inequities experienced by Black, indigenous, people of color and other underserved communities. Reversing the effects of systemic racism requires a long-term commitment. The first steps we are taking include expanding access to care in underserved communities; improving how we track outcomes by race; expanding implicit and unconscious bias training; growing programs that impact the social causes of poor health; and further diversifying our leadership, workforce, and suppliers. Learn more about how we’re taking a stand for health equity.

Social health factors

The health of far too many Americans is determined by socioeconomic factors. CommonSpirit is treating the social causes of poor health with the same urgency and resources that we use to address acute medical needs. CommonSpirit is championing violence prevention through education, public policy, and community-based initiatives. We are united against human trafficking in our communities with groundbreaking programs that save lives. And we help people find a safe home by investing millions in affordable housing and homelessness services.

Championing universal health coverage

We believe every person should have access to health coverage. CommonSpirit is America’s leading Medicaid provider – and we know this vital program can be expanded to cover more people and more services. We’re also fighting for vital mental and social services that affect our health status to be covered by private and government insurance programs.
