What is an ascending aortic aneurysm?

The aorta is a blood vessel that carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The part that comes upward out of the heart is called the ascending aorta. An ascending aortic aneurysm is a bulge in the ascending aorta. This area is overstretched and weak and can burst.
