Burkitt lymphoma

Burkitt lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that often occurs in children and young adults. The three main types of Burkitt lymphoma include:

  • An endemic type. This is mostly found in Africa.
  • A sporadic type. This is found throughout the world.
  • An immunodeficiency-associated type. This type is seen most often in people who have AIDS.

This disease can cause tumors in many parts of the body, including the jaw, the belly, the central nervous system, and the lymph nodes. It is usually treated with chemotherapy and other medicines.
