Delivery nurse
A delivery nurse is also called a labor and delivery nurse. They are part of the mother's care team during birth. They have special training to help the mother while she is having her baby. For example, a delivery nurse may help to:
- Check on, or monitor, the health of the baby and mother.
- Monitor the progress of labor.
- Respond quickly in an emergency.
- Give medicines.
- Coach mothers during labor and delivery.
- Give the mother ideas on how to reduce pain during labor.
- Tell family members or partners how they can help the mother during labor.
