What foods are low in phosphorus?

The foods you eat contain nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. Phosphorus is a nutrient. Your body needs the right amount to stay healthy and work as it should. You can use the list below to help you make choices about which foods to eat.

Here are some foods that are low in phosphorus. These foods have less than 50 mg per serving.

Fruits

  • Most types of fruit, 1 piece or ½ cup

Vegetables

  • Carrots, ½ cup
  • Greens (not spinach), ½ cup
  • Green beans, ½ cup
  • Tomato, 1 medium

Grains

  • Bread (white), 1 slice
  • Cereals (rice or corn), 1 cup
  • Cream of wheat or grits, ½ cup
  • Pasta or noodles (made with white flour and without egg yolks), ½ cup
  • Popcorn (air-popped), 1 cup
  • Pretzels, 1 oz
  • Rice (white), ½ cup

Dairy and dairy alternatives

  • Cream cheese, 1 oz
  • Almond milk, 1 cup

Protein foods

  • Egg whites, 2 whites or ¼ cup

Beverages

  • Coffee (brewed), 6 oz
  • Fruit juices, ½ cup
  • Ginger ale, root beer, or lemon-lime soda pop, 12 oz
  • Tea (brewed), 6 oz
