Object under a fingernail: When to call
Call your doctor now or seek immediate medical care if:
- Your finger is cold or pale or changes color.
- You have new pain, or your pain gets worse.
- You have tingling, weakness, or numbness in your finger.
- You have symptoms of infection, such as:
- Increased pain, swelling, warmth, or redness around the nail.
- Red streaks leading from the nail.
- Pus draining from the area.
- A fever.
- You bleed through your bandage.
Watch closely for changes in your health, and be sure to contact your doctor if:
- You do not get better as expected.
- You think there is still something under the fingernail.
