Stasis dermatitis is a condition that affects the skin on the lower legs, especially around the ankles. It can cause itching, discolored skin, and other skin changes. It usually occurs because of poor blood flow in the lower legs. A person with this condition may also have swelling that comes and goes.
Treatment includes improving blood flow in the legs and decreasing any swelling. Being more active and elevating the legs when sitting may help. Wear compression stockings if advised by your doctor. Petroleum jelly may be used for dry itchy skin. Medicines are sometimes used for the skin changes.
