Suprapubic aspiration

During suprapubic aspiration, a needle is inserted through the skin into the bladder to withdraw a urine sample. Local anesthesia may first be used to numb the area.

This method may be used to obtain a urine sample from a young child or infant to confirm or rule out the possibility of a urinary tract infection.
