Z-plasty: Overview

Z-plasty is a technique often used in plastic and reconstructive surgery. It helps improve the look of a wound or scar. It also helps to improve skin function and release tightness without a skin graft.

Z-plasty is done using a "Z"-shaped cut (incision). The skin is moved and stitched into place. It may be done using general or local anesthesia. You may be able to leave the same day. You might stay in the hospital longer if z-plasty is done with other procedures.
