Dr. Mathis joined the Center for Weight Loss Surgery in 2020, after being part of the CHI family since 2018. She is a Georgia native, who first became interested in surgery during a dissection lab in seventh grade science class. She completed an undergraduate degree with honors in History of Science and Medicine at Yale University, and earned her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia. She completed general surgery residency training at Inova Fairfax Medical Center in northern Virginia, followed by a bariatric surgery fellowship at the Lahey Clinic in Boston.
She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and serves on several national committees for the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. She performs laparoscopic and robotic bariatric and general surgery procedures, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revisional bariatric procedures.
