As Chief Physician Executive Officer, in partnership with nursing and operations, Tom has executive oversight over the full array of clinical activities across CommonSpirit, including both inpatient and outpatient settings inclusive of both aligned/employed medical groups as well as community physicians and advanced practice providers. In this role Tom leads clinical service lines and provider experience and is responsible for the Physician Enterprise, population health/PHSO, quality and safety programs, clinical transformation efforts as well as our academic partner relationships, further supporting clinical research and collaboration. As a practicing internal medicine physician and physician leader, Tom is a distinguished clinical researcher and evidence-based medicine expert recognized by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) for his efforts to improve health care, promote evidence-based medicine and reduce wasteful spending. Before CommonSpirit Health, he served as Deputy Physician-in-Chief and Senior Vice President of Physician Network Operations at Northwell Health. While at Northwell, he also held positions as founding chair and professor at the Department of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University/Northwell. Tom is a Professor of Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine and a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University, a medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn and a Master of Public Health from Columbia University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Bronx Municipal Hospital Center.
