"The CommonSpirit Health In-House Legal Team
is excited by the opportunity to collaborate with the Lloyd H. Dean Institute for Humankindness and the outside law firm of Polsinelli to develop and implement a medical-legal partnership (MLP) program to assist patients in navigating through potential barriers to achieving and maintaining their best health, with such barriers including housing insecurity and benefits denials. We welcome the chance to demonstrate our commitment to the Institute’s focus on health equity and CommonSpirit’s mission, vision, and values through participation in the MLP program."
–Elaine Lisko, Senior Vice President and General Counsel
“Partnering with the Humankindness Institute
is an amazing experience. Dr. Jackson and Dr. Hernandez, the Institute’s director of operations, are the essence of the CommonSpirit mission. They see the true need in our patient’s lived experience and work tirelessly in every situation to bring the needs of our communities into every discussion and effort. Their intense desire and consistency to provide a level playing field for all of our patients establishes them as my North Star for much of the work I do with our markets to provide seamless care coordination that is free of bias.”
–Liz Spinella-Jones, System Director, Case Management
"Of many diverse populations, Black and Hispanic American
patients are disproportionately affected by peripheral arterial disease (PAD). System-level interventions are needed to address the disparities in PAD diagnosis, management, and outcomes. Therefore, the ground-breaking partnership at CommonSpirit Health between Mercy Medical Group and the Lloyd H. Dean Institute for Humankindness & Health Justice is timely. This collaborative effort is focused on researching health disparities and bridging the gaps in the care of our diverse patient populations. This demonstrates a best-practice example of how system-level interventions can happen to improve patient outcomes."
