As part of our mission to improve the lives and wellbeing of those who we serve, CommonSpirit Health is committed to addressing violence - one of the biggest public health issues we witness and one that is entirely preventable. United Against Violence is CommonSpirit’s multi-faceted approach to addressing and preventing violence, recognizing violence as a complex issue that requires comprehensive solutions, and CommonSpirit is proud to support the American Hospital Association’s Hospitals Against Violence initiative. Through education and awareness, public policy advocacy, shareholder advocacy and community-based violence prevention programming, we seek to change the overall trajectory of multiple issues of violence - working to respond appropriately within our healthcare facilities while simultaneously engaging our communities and the greater society in solutions to this public health crisis.
Over the past 14 years, CommonSpirit has dedicated over $50M in funding to support community-based violence prevention programs across our footprint. In FY23 alone, we will support this work with over $3M in funding, not including countless hours and resource allocation that supports these community-owned efforts. Using our Community-based Violence Prevention Resource Guide and Model, we have successfully engaged our communities in creating and implementing their own solutions to violence, providing support, guidance and resources that have changed the lives of countless individuals, families and communities.
