The Nurse Fellowship Program at CHI Memorial is designed to support and train nurses transitioning into critical care or emergency department roles. The program is divided into two phases to ensure a smooth and successful integration into these high-acuity environments.
Over 12 weeks, participants receive instruction on critical care or emergency department concepts, hands-on experience with preceptors and interdepartmental shadowing opportunities. This phase lays the foundation for clinical excellence and confidence.
The second phase spans the fellow’s first year of practice, offering continued support and education to enhance skills and professional growth. This proven program has consistently prepared new critical care nurses for success at CHI Memorial.
The Nurse Fellowship Program is available at CHI Memorial Hospital Chattanooga, Hospital Hixson and Hospital Georgia. Registered nurses hired into critical care units or emergency departments without prior experience in these areas are automatically enrolled in the program upon hire.
CHI Memorial’s Nurse Fellowship Program is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program. This recognition validates that our fellowship meets rigorous, evidence-based standards for quality and excellence. Nurses in accredited programs acquire the knowledge, skills and professional behaviors needed to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Why Choose Echo and Vascular Sonography?
Echocardiography and vascular sonography are critical in diagnosing and managing cardiovascular and vascular diseases.
Echocardiography: Assesses heart structure and function to diagnose conditions like valve disorders, heart failure and congenital defects. The increasing prevalence of heart disease drives strong demand for echocardiographers.
Vascular Ultrasound: Evaluates blood vessels and blood flow to detect conditions such as deep vein thrombosis and carotid artery disease. With an aging population and rising vascular disease, vascular sonographers are in high demand.
Being certified in both specialties enhances marketability, with professionals often sought after for their expertise in cardiovascular hemodynamics and imaging.
